Your questions answered

Altium Subscription is about staying current with Altium, and the continuous improvements and new features we introduce to our design solution. These frequently asked questions provide more information:

What does Altium Subscription cost?

We want to make it as easy as possible to stay current with Altium, and there are a number of flexible payment options available to help you do this.

If you choose to join Altium Subscription when you purchase a new Perpetual License for Altium Designer, you will pay an annual fee of US$1,500 per seat on the license. This gives you access to all new product releases during your membership period, and special benefits introduced through each year, as well as all service packs and support services available to every user of Altium Designer.

If you have a license to the current release of Altium Designer, but did not take out an Altium Subscription membership when you bought your license, you can join Altium Subscription by paying a joining fee of US$1,000, plus the annual subscription. If your Altium Subscription has lapsed, you'll also pay the US$1,000 joining fee to re-join.

Multi-year options are available that let you cap your expenses to current subscription rates. Alternatively, you can elect to smooth out your cash flow with the pay-by-the-month option.
To get Altium Subscription today, contact your local Altium Sales & Support Center or Reseller.

When can I get Altium Subscription?

The best time to buy Altium Subscription is at the same time you purchase a new perpetual Altium Designer license. You only pay the annual fee of US$1,500 per seat on a license.

If you already have a license to the current release of Altium Designer, you can join Altium Subscription at any time by paying a joining fee of US$1,000 in addition to the annual fee of US$1,500.

Any seats added to a Private Server or to an On-Demand license during the subscription term must also be put on subscription, prorated for the rest of that term. As noted above, the basic subscription term is one year, with options of paying monthly or annually. Multi-year subscriptions are available. Contact your local Altium Sales & Support Center or Reseller for more information.

My organization has already purchased the software, can I still buy subscriptions?

Yes. If you bought the latest release of Altium Designer and now want to join Altium Subscription, you can do so by paying a joining fee of US$1,000 and an annual fee of US$1,500. This will give you immediate access to the latest Altium Designer release and any further releases for the next 12 months.

Remember that this puts you on track to stay up to date with Altium Designer at a much reduced annual investment (with monthly or multi-year options also available). Once on Altium Subscription, you pay just $1,500 per year - that's it!

For subscriptions attached as part of a license purchase, the US$1,000 joining fee will be waived.

Can my organization purchase more than one year at a time?

Yes. You can purchase multi-year memberships, and protect your investment for that period against any price rises in Altium Designer. Contact your local Altium Sales & Support Center or Reseller for more details.

How can I purchase Altium Subscription for my Private Server or On-Demand licenses?

Attaching Altium Subscription to a Private Server or On-Demand license is calculated per seat and must include all seats within the license. Any seats added to a multi-seat license during the subscription term must also be put on subscription, prorated for the rest of that term.

Can I add new seats to a subscription membership?

Yes, you can add new seats to a subscription membership. Any seats added during the subscription term will be prorated for the rest of that term. Please contact your local Altium Sales & Support Center or Reseller to discuss your specific requirements.

Is it possible to delete seats or products from a subscription membership?

Yes. At the end of the subscription term, you can decrease the number of seats or completely cancel the Altium Subscription agreement. Please note, however, that re-joining the subscription program at a later date will attract a new joining fee.

How is the subscription expiration date determined?

For annual subscriptions, the expiration date will be exactly 1 year after the Altium Subscription membership was established. This will be the same for all subscriptions whether purchased as part of the initial license purchase or as a later addition.

The only exception to this will be where the initial subscription membership has been paid pro rata to bring its renewal date in line with existing memberships.

I like the idea of Altium Subscription but I'm worried about how difficult it might be to manage regular new product releases? How will this affect my business?

Ask your sales rep about how simple it is to implement new releases of Altium Designer. We promise you that it's not the burden you might imagine. And we think the benefits outweigh all other concerns: always being on the latest version of Altium Designer, always knowing that your design teams are ahead of your competitors, always having the latest electronics design features and techniques at your fingertips, that help you speed up the design process, design for new devices, and manage your designs in new ways. But don't just take our word for it, look at what our customers have to say about keeping connected to the latest releases of Altium Designer.

What is the difference between Altium Subscription and Software Assurance?

Altium Subscription is what was previously known as Software Assurance, and for those who have a current Software Assurance contract with Altium, you automatically have access to Altium Subscription.

Altium Subscription is much more than just a simple name change. While it retains everything the was in the last version of what used to be called Software Assurance, it creates a membership experience for users of Altium Designer that will expand your community, provides tangible benefits today, and an edge for the future.

At the heart of Altium Subscription is the concept of subscribing to constant product innovation and development from Altium that helps keep you ahead of technology and ahead of your competitors. And it also provides new benefits, including (depending on where you're based) flexible payment options, design environment rebuild, special training, and additional regional benefits. And all for the investment equivalent to just a daily cup of coffee.

We want to help you stay ahead in electronics design technology. Altium Subscription is your answer.
